Zermatt Skiing

Zermatt Skiing

Everybody has heard of Zermatt, made famous for its supremely iconic mountain, the Matterhorn! We have been asked how far away it is. It is not close and will take well over 3 hours of driving, so maybe this is a double location destination. Relax on the lake and then go skiing in the Alps!

However Zermatt is located in the district of Visp in southwestern Switzerland  it is a small village where German is the main language.

The Matterhorn is only one of the 48 Swiss peaks that is over 4,000 meters above sea level and is the 10th highest in Switzserland. at over 10,000ft.

So if you are a mountain climber or skier then this is a great place to visit, if only to see the mountain!

Almost half of all of the apartments in Zermatt are vacation rental or private holiday apartments, so there is no shortage of places to stay with chalets in zermatt giving you quite a good selection and lots more information.

Zermatt is car-free. Private traffic is only permitted up to Täsch (5 km before Zermatt), and the road between Täsch and Zermatt is also closed to private transport. There are various large car parks and uncovered parking spaces are available in Täsch and there is a taxi and bus service to and from Zermatt. In addition the shuttle trains of the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway run between Täsch and Zermatt every 20 minutes. The train journey ends 12 minutes later at the Bahnhofplatz in Zermatt, the heart of the Matterhorn village.
