Head to the Mountains
There are endless ski resorts in Europe and many within easy reach of some famous Ski resorts. Although there are numerous resorts in France, Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, in fact anywhere you find mountains with snow, we would always recommend the ranges reaching from Italy into Switzerland.
The famous mountain ranges of the Alps and Dolomites are the playground of snowboaders and skiiers all winter and for hikers in the summer. Italy has many resorts, Cortina, Courmayer, Madesimo, Bormio, Passo Tonale in the Vale de Sole, Cervinia and many more. Many of these are linked by geography and even ski runs.
For example St. Moritz in Switzerland, which needs no introduction is 4 hours away by car going North and West. Keep going you can move back into Italay and Madesimo. Alternatively you could drive South then west below the other Italian Lakes, drive up to Domodossola and on to Zermatt. A beautiful car free village with the Matterhorn standing proud and making it presence know at the head of the valley.
There are lots of other places to visit and its well worth researching them to get the best options and find what best suits your budget and skiing skills.
Combining either winter stays on the Italian lakes with quiet, silent, peaceful locations and calm waters, with some exciting skiing in some of the world most famous resorts makes for a great break! This gives a budget lake break and a seasonal ski break.
Alternatively try a budget ski resort break in the summer and go hiking, or glacier skiiing and take in the lake pleasures in the summer!
